Jim Dine was one of the original artists that defined American Pop Art in the 1960’s.
Like his Pop contemporaries, Dine appropriated or embraced quintessential American images and icons, rejecting and contributing to the demise of Abstract Expressionism.
Dine used ubiquitous objects (like, tools, neckties and vegetables) and familiar forms, notably hearts, as the basis for bold and colorful compositions that flirted with abstraction or conceptual art.
Today, nearly 75 years after introduced, his most cherished works are variations and explorations of the heart motif. In “8 Hearts / Look” Dine again demonstrates his dynamic use and understanding of color. While this is a large edition, it is arguably his best iteration of his iconic hearts.
