Caviar20 is excited to be offering this striking and iconic etching by Robert Motherwell (1915-1991)
While Motherwell is known as one of the most important and influential artists associated with Abstract Expressionism, he is also revered for his work and promotion and accomplishments with printmaking.
This is a classic example of his bold gestural style and his preference for heavy black forms that evoke Asian calligraphy.
1980 was an important year for Motherwell; "The Painter and the Printer: Robert Motherwell's Graphics 1943-1980" opens at the MoMA (NYC) in the fall and tours for four years across the United States and Canada
This work is in the permanent collection of many institutions including the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis and the MoMA (New York City)
